Mr. Cecil Wright, who has been spending the lost- week or so in Now Plymouth, returned North on Wednesday night. • A London cablegram states that Sir Joseph Hooker’s relatives declined the otter for his burial in Westminster Abbey, and lie was buried at Kew. A Sydney cable -reports tho death on Wednesday night of Mr. R. A. Duff, a prominent international cricketer, who had been ailing for some time. W. A. Dunlop, tho well-known tennis plaver, who is to help Australasia to defend tho Davis Cup at Christchurch, left Sydney by the Maheno on Wednesday night. A London cablegram reports that the Rev, Mr. Hawkins, vicar of Whitwoll, and Lady Constance Foljambo were quietly married in London last Monday. They were to have been married last July, hut tho bride did not appear at the'church, and tho ma'rriage was then indefinitely postponed. Air. Shelton, New Zealand representative of the Producers’ Association, left London by tho Tainui, and is duo in New Zealand on January 21. It is the association’s intention that Air. Shelton shall make a lecturing tour and then return to London to pr.ess for further improvements.—Press Association. Miss Tracy Okey was the recipient on Wednesday of a very handsome afternoon tea set from the employees of the Taranaki Foundry on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Tho presentation was made by Air. J. Downs, iiV a few well-chosen remarks, and acknowledged by Air. F. W. Okey and Air. Moore. A London cablegram states that Daisy Kennedy, a South Australian, was a great success at a concert given by Scvcik’s pupils at Queen’s Hall. The Daily Telegraph proclaims her an artist of the highest rank, with a style far above those usually described as firstclass violinists. Other papers are also eulogistic.
