INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) December 13.—An alarm of fire on Monday evening brought the brigade out quickly and busy, but they found that it was only a washhouse at tho rear of the Bank of New Zealand, which io now undergoing alterations. Another twenty minutes and things would have been more strenuous than pleasant for the bank. Mr. Frcwin'?. pictures last night wore not well attended, although he staged “Captain Kate” again by special request. His programme was very good, and deserved more recognition than it obtained. Ol course, a subdued thrill of excitement is working up for to-morrow again on tho political aspect. It will bo a blessing when things arc finally settled, especially, I .suppose, for the candidates, who at present "dumio where they “lolanthe” on Friday premises to ho well patronised, and so it slundd be, on account of the local institutions to which the proceeds arc to be given. The weather being so moist has materially affected all outdoor work, including the hand rotunda, but it must i have nn end some time, if it’s only , when winter comm; hut when yon see ! clearing sales of drapery being held 1 before Christmas it indicates that there’s a screw very loose somewhere. >
