INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) November 14.—Tho annual meeting of the Tradesmen’s Association did nor attract a large attendance last night (Monday); no doubt tho attention of the majority of people is now centred on politics, and the lecture by the Rov. Knowles Smith diverted thorn from the purely local meeting. Tho meeting comprised consideration of a proposal to lorm a Chamber of Commerce, which after discussion was referred to a committee set up for the purpose of calling a public mooting to deal with it. Various other questions, including the suggestion that Saturday be accepted as ilio half-holiday throughout Taranaki, and an invitation from tho Wellington Chamber to agitato for the principle of through hooking of goods by rail and sen, were discussed and dealt with. The election of officers resulted in Mr. F. Spurdlo being returned as president; vice-president, Mr. Caukhvoll; secretary, Mr. W. H. Taylor; and executive, Messrs. M'Loan, Cramer, Grossman, Huston, Robb, G. Taylor, Frewin, Rolston, Fawcett, and Chamberlain. After tho usual votes of thanks to the outgoing officers and to tho Borough Council for use of their chambers the meeting concluded. Tho death of Mr. Gcorgo Turner, which occurred this morning (Tuesday), removes another of tho original settlers of Inglewood from amongst us. Many aro tho yarns your scribo has had with this hearty, honest, and true pioneer describing the hardships lie and his wife and little children had to undergo in tho days when Inglewood township was just a newly-felled clearing and roads were only observable at intervals of swamps and logs. Tho lato gentleman had boon failing for some time past, and his end was not unexpected by his sorrowing relatives, who have the sincere sympathy of all who know him, and they arc many. Tho funeral is to take place on Thursday next Tho lecturo by tho Rev. Knowles Smith was well attended, but as he has already been well reported in your) columns I shall not take up your space other than by stating that it public comments are anything to go by, it is possible that tho no-license people may do their cause some harm by overdoing it, .to use a somewhat mixed expression. It is possible to have too much of even a good thing, and it is impassible apparently to avoid a certain amount of reiteration on this subject.
