TONGAPORUTY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Nov. B.—There has been a long spell of very high winds, which, besides being very unpleasant, have to a considerable extent hindered tho growth of the grass in any but the most sheltered spots. Settlers in the district will be pleased to hear that the Pilot Road, loading from"the Main North Road to the cemetery, is now completed, and the sincere thanks of all concerned in tho matter are due to Mr. Armstrong, Commissioner of Crown Lands, for his assistance in securing the funds to do the work with. Air. Rigg, Government road inspector, is also to bo heartily thanked for the trouble and labour ho went to in levelling, laying out, and supervising the work, which has been completed in a very satisfactory manner.
The polling for members for the Clifton County Council was held to-day, and I would like to ask the gentlemen who come out on top if they do not think the time has arrived for tho council chambers to bo removed to some more central portion of the Clifton district. In times gone past it is possible there may have been some excuse for the council to hold their meetings outside their own boundaries, but at the present time there is hone, and it is quite time the convenience of tho ratepayers as well as councillors was attended to.
