WELLINGTON SESSIONS. V-' Pit-;'; ts.sneiat.ioa, WELLINGTON, August 27. At the Supremo Court yesterday Frank Cobles, a Maori, charged wit*i assault and robbery, was. 'found guilty of assault with intent to rob, and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. WELLINGTON, August 23. In the divorce case Elizabeth Lowther v. Frederick Lovvthc-r a decree nisi was granted by Mr. Justice Sim. PALMERSTON SESSIONS. PALMERSTON N., Aug. 27. Sir Robert Stout bad berore Him for sentence on Saturday a youth of twenty who had pleaded guilty to carnally knowing a girl under sixteen at Mangaweka. The ofience had been'committed on tho second cceasu n of his meeting the girl, and Mr. Cooper, ior tho defence. pleaded that the girl was a consenting party, and Unit it was not her lirst. experience. As the youth, who was respectably connected at Wellington, hail never been before the courts before, ho ashed for probation.
Sir Hubert Stout said that probation had never before been gran tea in such a case, and he would nave to consult tho other judges before extending it. He would have inquiries made as to the youth’s personal character, and there!ore remanded him to Thursday for sentence.
