Mr. Justice Edwarus quashed the decision ol the Kaiparu incensing Committee in cancelling i:io iicen-e of tho Maropiu Hotel, Kaipara, mainly on the ground that Mr. Trcunsen, a member ol the committee, resides at Northcote, and though occasionally residing with his daughter at Maropiu, ho is not legally a resident of that licensing district. THE STRATFORD LINE. TE KUITI, August 28. A large meeting of settlers at Piopio on Saturday passed a resolution asking that a Royal Commission inquire into the merits of tho Aria-YVaitc-wbunua route as an alternative to tho Ongarue route for tho Stratford main trunk railway, ou tho ground that the Minister for Public Works expressed his I opinion that it was the better route. ILLEGAL BETTING. NAPIER, August 2S. For illegally beefing at the Hunt Club races John Laidlaw was fined £3O and costs, and William Ballam for a similar offence was fined £2O. THE BRUNNER MINE. CHRISTCHURCH, August 28. The manager of the North Brunner Coni Company denies the telegraphed report that the mine has been closed down. He ordered a tcm [Kir ary stop-’ page pending the consideration of proposals made by London, which may necessitate, a modification of tho development of tho mine.
