GRANDSTAND ACCIDENT.

THOUSANDS INJURED. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. NEW YORK, August 27. A grandstand collapsed at the Elgin (Illinois) automobile contest. Thousands were involved in the accident, and three hundred were injured. A panic started, and the police and soldiers used their clubs on the terrified people, who streamed over the course in front of tho racing cars. Many w r ere injured, and may die. A FURTHER ACCIDENT. (Received August 28, 8.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 27. Lusk, a veteran automobilist, was travelling at 65 miles an hour, at the motor contest at Elgin, Illinois, when the machine cast a tyre, and he was thrown out, and Jacobs, his mechanician, killed outright. Thirty persons had been taken to the hospital as the result of the collapse of the grandstand earlier in the day.
