Brisbane cablegram reports the death of Air. Keogh, ALL.A., suddenly from heart'failure.

Mr George Hutchison announces himself as a candidate for the Wanganui seat at the next election as an opponent to the Ward Government. In his an-' nouncement to the electors he hints at a solution of , industrial ■ troubles, and will expound his proposals to the electors very shortly. '

A very pleasant little function took place at'Alr. J. V. Keen’s tea-rooms ou Thursday evening, the occasion being a farewell smoke concert to Captain Wright, Government grader, by his friends connected with tho dairy fac- 1 tories in the vicinity of Hawera. Air. J. R. Corrigan presided. Advantage was taken to make a presentation to Captain Wright oi a purse of sovereigns, to mark the esteem and appreciation of his qualifications as ■ a Government grader. Regret was expressed at his departure from Hawera and pleasure at his promotion to a responsible position in London, and the beet of good wishes to himself and Airs. Wright. Replying to the toast of his health, and in acknowledging the presentation, Captain Wright said he was going Home as the servant of tho dairy farmer, and to try and push the ” Dominion’s produce. Captain Wright proceeded to Wellington by Friday’s express train, and was farewelled by n number of his friends. As the train moved off three rousing choera were : accorded Captain AVright, who will take away with him the heartiest of good wishes for his success in the Old Country.—Hawera Star.
