The Devs. F. G. Evans and J. Wilkinson returned from Auckland this morning. Among the names of those who kept thoir first year’s terms at Victoria College is that of Mr. Bernard Glasgow. Tho engagement of Mr. 'Molesworth Tolhurjit to Miss Katie Nelson, daughter of Canon Nelson, of Auckland, is announced. A Wellington telegram states that Captain Scott arrived by the Warrimoo from Sydney to-day. He was given a civic reception this afternoon. Mr. A. J. Dixon, who was for some time on the New Plymouth staff of tlie Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed acting assistant accountant at the Wellington branch of the bank. One of the oldest white residents of Now Zealand died at Opna the other day, in the person of Mrs. Dinah Poole. She was born at Russell eighty years ago, her father, Mr. T. Hausen, having arrived there in 1815. Mr. Thomas Knowles, mine host of the Moturoh Hotel for the last eight years, leaves on Saturday to take over tho Opunako Hotel, Mr. Frank Poland succeeding him as host of tho Moturoa Hotel. Mr. Knowles is no stranger to Opunako, having resided there continuously for twenty-ono years until some ton years ago. As a member of tho Armed Constabulary ho took part in the Parihaka troubles in the early ’eighties. Mr. Knowles is well and favourably known in this district, and be will carry with him tho good wishes of many Now Plymouth friends.
