Following upon the cloud-burst, torrents of volcanic mud and lava blocks from Vesuvius swept over the circular railway on the mountain, overwhelmed the crops over miles of country, and crushed many houses. A number of bathers perished at Casamicciola, in the island of- Ischia. Many houses were flooded and collapsed at Amalfi, and there was loss of life. Tremendous seas are running in the Gulf of Naples. In the vicinity of the port the Inundation undermined a number of houses. Twenty-six bodies have been recovered. Four battle ships have been sent to the island of Ischia, which is reported to ho partially submerged with mud 24ft. deep. The dead number 200. NAPLES, Oct. 25. The floods invaded Cetarn, a fishing village, killing twelve. The hurricane and floods of mud and boulders following the cloud burst played havoc at Casamicciola in Ischia. A dozen were killed. There were other victims on the slopes of Montouicola, and the population of Pnccoalncnto is homeless. Many were drowned. MORE ACCURATE REPORTS. (Received Oct. 26, 10.50 a.m.) ROME, Oct. 25. Later reports show that the damage at Casamicciola and Ischia is not so great as at first reported. Cetafa, however, suffered severely, the victims numbering two hundred, All the houses in one street collapsed at Major!, and at Snlbrho twenty were killed.
