The cheques paid out by the Kanpokonui Co-operative Dairy Company on thp 20th inst. for milk amounted to £7X3I 2s XOd. Further cheques paid out for wages and trade accounts amounted to £2300, the aggregate amount representing £9431 2s lOd. In the course of a paper on radium emanations read before the Canterbury Philosophical Institute recently, Dr. "W. H. Symes described the results which had been reported in one of the scientific journals of investigations of the effects of drinking water • which was highly radio-active. The conclusion to which those had led was that in suitable cases and in suitable doses radio-active water promoted health and growth, but it was equally certain that in unsuitable cases and in excessive doses such water was injurious.
