Mr, Potor Heyos, late Commissioner of Taxes, has petitioned •Parliament praying that the two specific charges in respect of which he was asked to resign may bo reviewed, by Parliament, t and that the circumstances surrounding them may bo fully inquired into, and . (2) that 1)0 may bo -granted by Parha* incut .such a sunn of money, as he.may be deemed worthy of in view of, his long, special and faithful services to the Government,' and of the harsh and extreme treatment ho received on- his retirement : from office, .Petitioner points out that he devoted tho whole of his time; night and day for the past 17 years of his life, to .the services of New Zealand, and now., finds that through what con at nio.it bo termed an, indiscretion, he bus .been, retired from office withopt. any oouiphnsation or recognition: of tho long , and-/ special serviceswhich he rendered to. the country. He noints out that- ho is also do■prived of'his claim to 1 Superannuation. Ho submits that he hag been singled out -for specially severe treatment, and that there is ' no" precedent for sliCh'treitmont, but that .on the contrary there :;are more recent precedents which would warrant petitioner being dealt with-much, more leniently.
