INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) , Oct. 6.—The usual fortnightly meeting of the debating society was held last night, the unfavourable weather accounting for a diminished attendance. The subject of debate was “License v. No-License,” and the argument all through was very keen and close, Mr. Currie opened the debate in the cause of license, while Mr. Stratford was the chief upholder of temperance. Other speakers were: License, Messrs. Boldt aiid Biernacki; No-License, Mr. T. E. Hamorton. Tho License cause was declared the better on the casting vote of tho chairman. The next, the concluding meeting, will take tho form of a social evening. 1 hear that another picture show intends to include Inglewood in its regular circuit. The golf links presented an animated appearance this afternoon, when a match was played between teams representing tho Inglewood and Now Plymouth Clubs. The New Plymouth players pained tho victory by quite a substantial margin. A social was held in tbe Parish Hall last night in aid of the funds of tho local Catholic Church. As is usual in the case of Catholic functions here, the weather was anything but favourable. Nevertheless there was a very good turn-out, and the evening was enjoyed to tho full by all who were fortunate enough to be present. The “Juvenile Scarlet Troubadours” aro advertised to perform hero on Wednesday night. If they are half as good as tho original Scarlet Troubadours they should be well worth a visit.
