Following is Mr. Newton King’s weekly butter and cheese report, from Messrs. R. and W. Davidson, of London and Glasgow, under date August 18: CONTINENTAL BUTTERS. There has been a good demand for finest qualities, and this grade is entirely cleared. Secondary is dragging. Choicest goods continue to be scarce, and with tho continued decrease in the imports to this country, we anticipate that very shortly wo will have a decided advance in prices. Copenhagen market is wired as being much firmer, and the quotation to-day has boon declared 2 kroner up. Danish and Swedish.—The total arrivals of Danish to this country are 489 casks short of last week. There has been an active demand for choicest quality, which has been easily cleared at an advance of about 2s per cwt. A groat proportion of both Danish and Swedish arrivals is faulty in quality. AVb quote choicest 115 sto 11/s. Siberian.—The total arrivals this week aro fully 20,000 casks., Values are higher all round, choicest quality being inquired for at 102 s to 104 s. Medium grades have also met with a fairly good demand at 98s to 100 s, but inferior grades still romajn difficult to move at 94s to 965. Our wires from Siberia indicate that the market there is much stronger, and pricey during the last few days have advanced 5s to 6s per cwt. From letters also.to hand this week it would appear’’that the hay hnrve’st is a very bad one, and it look’s as if tho make of butter will decrease very rapidly. / French.—The market remains unchanged, with, if anything, an improved demand for butter of choicest description. Lower grades meet witli only a fair dcmnfid. We quote:—-Ex-tra mild baskets 106 s to 110 s, finest 98s to 102 s, good to fine 92s to 965, lower grades B6s to 88s. IRISH CREAMERY BUTTER' Tho market this week has been decidedly firmer, prices being Is to 2s higher than last week. Quality just under finest is pressed for sale at very irregular prices. Wo quote: —Strictly choicest salted 108 s to 100 s, choicest unsalted 110 s to Ills. COLONIAL BUTTERS. Australian.—There have ’ been no fresh arrivals to this market. Finest quality ex cold store can bo had at 108 s, lower grades obtainable at 100 s up to 104 s. New Zealand.—Wo bolieyo there is none now on the market. Nominal quotations 112 s to 114 s. Imports to the United Kingdom.—. The total imports from January r to week ending August 13, for tho last four years, are as follows;—1907, 2,911,927 cwt; 1908, 2,769,509 cwt; 1909, 2,740,834 cwt; 1910, 2,822,711 cwt. CHEESE. Canadian.—Old cheese continues firm at unaltered prices. Now cheese is rather quiet, and is again easier in price, 53s to 545. New Zealand.—There is very little on offer, and present prices remain firm, choicest white S7s 6d to- 58s, choicest coloured 575. Imports to the United Kingdom.— Tho total imports from” January 1 to week ending August 13 for the last four years, are as follow-:—1907, 1,338,400 cwt; 1908, ’ 1,302,637 cwt; 1909, 1,331,246 cwt; 19.10, 1,397,700 cwt.
