ITS CONSTRUCTION ABANDONED. .

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept..2B. The Wellington Harbour Board at a j special meeting a few, days ago con-, sidored a letter from M'Lean and. Sons, 1 ;i ,’ .contractors, for the;construction ;ofi the graving dock at a cost of nearly £200,000, stating' that the wofk-could rioti be carried, out; according to specifications: " The board” resolved then to abandon the ‘ contract! ' “This ‘decision was confirmed 1 at an, ordinary meeting .to-night! when tho chairman made a full statement of. the position. It was decided to endeavour to get, .a ; ißill ; passed by Parliament, the. board to postpone the construction of the dock and providing.that the board , may at any time construct the dock;and may apply the sum of *’£250,000; part of the loan authorised : by the, Wellington Harbour Board Reclamation and Empowering Act; 1 1908, .to.the construction of such dock and works incidental thereto. . < 1 s ->(
