Mr. J. Hcslop left last night for Aurikland en route for an extended holiday in Australia. Messrs. L. G. P. Spencer, H. Davy, and C. O’Connor went North by steamer last night., Mr. AY. AA r alters, proprietor of the Glen Oroua stud of blood stock, was a passenger by the Rnrawa last night for Onehunga.

Baume, K.C., M.P., who left Auckland on 'Wednesday evening by the I’. and 0. steamer Malwa, on a health trip to Europe, was presented with a valuable pair of field and marine glasses and a gold sovereign oaso, by his, constituents, with best wishes for his speedy recovery., A public reception was tendered in the Choral Hall, Auckland, on Thursday, to Mr .H. Brett,: on his return from the Imperial Press Conference in London. The Mayor presided, and presented an illuminated address to Mr, Brett on behalf : of the people of Auckland. Brief addresses of welcome wore also delivered by the Hon. B. Mitohelson and Mr. J. H. Upton. ; ~Mn Struck, of the Hawora District High School, has been promoted to the position of major of the Fourth. Wanganui Battalion of cadets, numbering’2so from Waverley, Patea, Hawora and Eltham Schools. Mr. Robbie, of Patea, is adjutant; Mr. Thomas, of Eltham, is quartermaster; and Mr. Banks, : of AVaverley, is sergeant-major, Mr. Bates has been promoted to captain of Hawora cadets, and Master Arthur Foden is lieutenant. The Rev. Dr. Tudor J ones, who established the Unitarian Free Church in Wellington, is returning to England, and will leave in a few days. Ho and Mrs. Jones were entertained by the Unitarian congregation in Wellingtontbs'other evening. Dr. Jones was presented with a purse of sovereigns. In returning thanks he asked his congregation to accept’ a contribution of £25 to the building fund, and promised when he went Home to got £4OO or £SOO sent out.
