CONFIDENCE TRICK CHARGES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The police Rave, been closely following certain, clues in regard to the recent attempted extortion of money from William Webb, of Wanganui, the captain of the Stonnbird, aiid certain citi- , zens of Wellington. As a result of their inquiries, a man lias been apprehended, and will be charged in due course.. .In addition to forgery, a senes of confidence trick charges are pending against accused. LOCAL BODIES SUPPLIES. . NAPIER, Feb. 14. Reference was made at a meeting of Hawke.’s Bay Charitable Aid Board today to the matter of one- of the members having supplied the board with goods of a value over the statutory amount. The chairman (Mr. C. H. Granby) made a statement on the subject, in the course of which he emphatically denied that'lie was aware of tho transaction, giving dates to show ho was away at 1 the time. ' Mr. A. E. Eagloton, the member in question, forwarded his, resignation, which was accepted., „ DISHONEST TRAM OFFICIALS. WELLINGTON. Feb. 14. A tramway motorraan and a conductor wore convicted to-day of stealing a purse and contents of tho total value of £ll. The Magistrate, Mr. Riddell, remarked that ho thought tho ends of justice would be met, taking into Consideration that accused had made restitution as far as possible, if they were merely ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Ho added that he hoped neither would again appear in Court. ■ . •
