Mr. J. H. Quilliam returned to New Plymouth this morning from a 'brief visit to Auckland.

According to tho Pelorus Guardian, the Rev. J. R. Burgin will leave Havelock about the end of March, to take temporary charge of tho Anglican Church at Patea.

Mr. Wilfred Arnold, son of Mr. A. H. Arnold, of New Plymouth, has just gained his' first-class Engineer’s certificate. Mr. Arnold served his apprenticeship at New Plymouth with Messrs.'Okey and Hollo. The Hon. G. Fowlds, Blinister of Education, left "Wellington for Auckland on .'Saturday. , On Wednesday he will attend tho luncheon at the invitation of the agents of the P. and 0. Company on hoard the steamer Malwa. The sumo afternoon Mr. Fowlds.wlll open tho now wards of the Auckland Hospital. Tho following members of the Taranaki Veterans’ Association intend journeying to Wellington on the occasion of Lord Kitchener's visit in addition to the fifty whose names have been already published;—J. O’Donnell, A. J. Hoskin, Sergeant G. Bertrand, Captain T. E. Hamerton, C. N. Rowe, J. B. Pemvarden, Sergeant W. Apployard, James Conway, Alf. Pearn, M. M‘Gonnell and H. Putt. A large number of applications have been received from as far as Patea and Awakino, but owing to tho applicants not being members of tho association the requests could not be entertained. A memorial brass has been erected on the north wall of St. Mary’s Church to the memory of the late Captain l Thomas Good, who died at Hawera on May 19, 1907, aotat 84. Coming out to Now Zealand in 1823, when 22 years of ago, the late Captain Good took a prominent part in tho early pioneering work at New Plymouth. Upon the outbreak of tho Maori wars of the early sixties he did good service as captain of a company of friendly Maoris and as captain of No. 1 Company of Volunteers. He subsequently did his full share in the strenuous work of a settlor, first at Tataraimaka and afterwards at Uronui and Oeo. In tho words of the memorial, “As a kindly, uprignt, courteous English gentleman ho will be long remembered and revered and honoured by those who profited by his friendship and exemplary life.” The memorial was dedicated by the vicar,, tho Rev. F. G. Evans, at tho morning service yesterday.
