River Plate 3|d. ‘ . COLONIAL BORROWING. AN AUCKLAND CITY LOAN. Per Press Association. LONDON, Fob. 12. The City of' Auckland is issuing £313,002 in four per cents.) with 21 years’ currency, at 1011. New South Wales is issuing a £2,750,-' 000 loan, carrying 34 per cent., at 97, a half-year’s interest being payable on July‘l, making the net price £96 2s od. The loan lias boon underwritten on the usual terms. The holders of the maturing four per cents, are offered an equal amount of new stock, with a cash payment ot £4 2s 6d, of which £3 is for the difference in the value of the stock and £2 for the coupon due on July 1, loss 17s 6d interest. The list closes on the 17th and cash on the 22nd. DANNEVIRKE RASI FAIR. DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 12. At the first ram Lair, held to-day, 1609 were offered, this number being rather above the capacity of the district to absorb. There was a good demand for Romneys and Lincolns, but Border Leicester? and other mutton classes were neglected. The highest price was for a stud Romney ram bred by Mr. Buick. of Masterton, sold to L. sl‘Konzio, Palmerston North, for 20gns., other studs making fair values. AUCKLAND BUTTER SIARKET. AUCKLAND, Feb. 13. The butter factory companies doing business on the Auckland market have decided to increase the wholesale price of the standard brands of butter to 124<1 per lb. nett as from to-morrow morning. This increase is due to the high prices and good prospects reported from England. NEWTON KING. slr. Newton Fling’s weekly butter and cheese report from 51cssrs. R. and W. Davidson, of London and Glasgow, under date December SO, states: — Continental Butters.—The market this week, after the holidays, has been: very quiet. Our telegraphic advices from Copenhagen state that the market there was dull, and the quotation 'to-day has been declared 2 kronor down. Danish and Swedish Butters. The total shipments this week show a failing off of about 1400 casks. The market has boon dull, few buyers being about. Prices show a reduction of about 4s per cwt. Stocks are by no means cleared. We quote;—Strictly choicest quality 125 s to 1275. Siberian Butter. —Tho arrivals at present are so very small that th.ore is practically no market. Anything offering may he quoted:—Strictly choicest 106 s to. 108 b, good medium dairies 100 s to 104 s. inferior grades 96s to 98s. ' ' . French Butter. —Tho arrivals at present are small. Prices remain stationary. Choicest gold (baskets) 108 sto 112 s, choicest blue (baskets) 100 s to 106 s. choicest, rod (baskets) 96s to 100 s. All landed London, and in accordance with qualitv and brand. Australian Butters. —There was practically no stock carried over from_ last week, and the trudo has boon awaiting tho discharge of tho s.s. Orontos, which has ; ibout 38,000 boxes on board. Tho market remains steady at last week s rates AA’e quote:—Strictly choicest quality 106 s to 108 s, ex 110 s, choice quality 104 s to 106 s. Now Zealand Butter.—Thero is net hing at all on spot. Tho s.s. Rimutaka is due to arrive on Saturday with about 52.000 boxes. Sales arc being made to arrive ex this steamer at 110 s, landed. Canadian Cheese. —Tho market continues quiet, there being an ent'io la k of animation. Prices remain unaltered. Choicest white.and colo.:roJ ben.-g obtainable at 56s to 575. New Zealand Cheese.—The demand continues poor, . and as tho s.s. Rimntaka has a considerable cjnantity on board, some merchants anticipate that tbov will be able to buy at slightly lower prices. To-day’s quotations are unaltered from last week, viz.: Choicest coloured 54s to 54s Gd. choicest white 54s 8d to 555. All landed London.

Dalgoty ami Company, Limited, Wellington, report having received the following cable messages from their London house, under date of the 10th instant;— Frozen Meat. —For mutton there is an improved demand at prices somewhat in sellers’ favour. Lamb is very firm, prices ranging from Jd to id higher. Beef is in fair demand at I prices somewhat, in sellers’ favour. Tallow. —Prices in general are 3d lower, 'with the exception of mutton, which is 6d lower. ADDINGTON SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 9. At Addington live stock market there were good yardings of stock, but as farmers wore 'busy harvesting, the attendance was not up to the average. Sheep.—Best rape lambs sold at 8s lOd to 10s lOd, small 6s 5d to Bs, forward wethers to 14s 9d, medium 10s Gd to 12s Gd, lighter Ds 6d to 11s, twotooth owes to 13s Od, and 24 oight-tooth ewes to 12s lOd. The entry of fat lambs totalled 6615, the largest number offered this season. There wore some prime lots penned, but a considerable proportion were on the light side. These, however, sold remarkably well, ami were firmer by about Is per head, while the primeat lambs showed a rise of about 9d per head. One-fourth of the yarding, approximately, sold at 14s to 15s, about ono-half at 13s to 13s lid, the bulk thus making over 13s; There were 0035 taken for export, the demand being keen, and 580 were bought by butchers. Prime wethers 15s to 16s Bd, others'l2s 3d to 14s 6d, prime- ewes 11s 6d to 14s 9d, others to 11s, merino wethers 8s to 9s 2d. Cattle.—-The. sale was irregular, but prices showed practically no change, prime hoof being equal to 20s to 225. medium 18s 6d to 19s 6d. and cow and inferior 17s to 18s per 100 lb. Steers brought £6 5s to £9 17s Gd, heifers £5 to £7 17s 6d, and cows £4 7s Gd to £7 7s 6d. Veal calves formed a small

yarding and sold at 4s 6d to 51s. A small yarding of store cattle sold at late rates, yearlings making 26s to 335, fifteen to eighteen-months £2 4s to. £2 6s, two-year steers £3 17s 6d, two-year heifers £3 2s 6d, two and a half-year steers £4 10s, three-year steers £5 5s to £6. ss, three-year heifers £4 4s. to £4 15s, and dry cows £2 10s to £4 11s. Dairy cows were in good demand, and realised £3 10s to £lO. Pigs.—Largo baconers made 42s to 495, and lighter 34s to 40s (equal to 4Jd to 4Jd per lb), large stores 23s to 325, medium 17s. to 20s, and weaners 8s 6d to 12s.
