Tho High Commissioner’s cabled market report, dated February 12, states: Mutton. The market is steady. There is less demand and the market is speculative. The stock of New Zealand mutton on hand consists entirely of North Island, which is widely distributed, and which is being pushed for sale. Tho average price for North Island mutton is 3|cl. The lamb market is quiet, but firm, with a better demand. The average price of New Zealand lamb, other than Canterbury, is sid. Beef.—The market is firm, but there are no advances. • New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 2Jd. Butter.-—The market remains firm, although buyers are holding back, expecting .prices to go lower. The price of choicest New Zealand butter is 120 s, Australian 118 s, Argentine 118 s, Danish 1275, Siberian 117 s. Cheese.—The market is firm with a hardening tendency. Finest New Zealand white cheese is averaging 59s 6d, coloured 58s 6d. „ Hemp. The market is lifeless. Prices are as follows-;—On spot, New Zealand good fair £27, fair £26, Manila fair . current £26 10s, forward shipment good fair £26 10s, fair £25 10s, Manila £25 10s. The output of Manila hemp for the week is 20,000 bales. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market for on spot is steady and prices are well maintained. The price of bright clean 17 lb New Zealand seed on spot is 745, for now crop, forward shipment tho market is dull and prices are irregular. Wool.—Tho market remains firm; Hops.—The market is firm with a hardening tendency. The demand is great. The grain market in general is quiet with little doing, but a good feeling prevails. Meat.—The arrivals of River Plate mutton and lamb at tho ports of tho United Kingdom during January were as follows: London 27,268 carcases .mutton, 8891 lamb; Liverpool 81,191 and 6079; Hull, 7223 and 17 ; Newcastle 5000 and nil; Southampton 9547 and 2369; Cardiff 2115 and 696; Plymouth 1062 and 2308; Ireland 1260 and 25,134; AUCKLAND SHARE MARKET.
