RADIUM BEARING ORE.

AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY. AID TO WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY. By Electric Telegraph'.—Copyright. (Received Feb. 14, 9.40 a.m.) ADELAIDE, Feb. 14. An unexpected discovery of the properties of radium-bearing mineral has just been made in connection with the installation of wireless telegraphy between Melbourne and Clifton Springs. It has been found that by the use of radioactive ores in the installation, the transmission of messages is strikingly facilitated. Steps are being taken to protect the discovery'. The first experiments were made with Bohemian pitch-blende, but by accident some ore was used from the Radio Hill Mine at Clary. This demonstrated that through some unknown quality, the South Australian ore, which contains 50 per cent, of uranium ovide, is much superior to Bohemian pitch-blende for the purposes of wireless telegraphy.
