EAST END BATHING SHED.

MORE ACCOMMODATION WANTED A large deputation,'representing.both the ladies’ and men’s committees in charge of the East End bathing shod, waited on tho borough , council last night and asked for a subsidy of £ for £ on the £39 raised recently by the beach concert. , Mr. W. H. Fletcher referred to the largo number of people who now frequented the beach and said the dressing accommodation in the shed for men and boys was totally inadequate, so much so that many had to undress in tho open, which was not altogether desirable. If the council would accede to their request it was proposed to extend tho present shed to provide double tho accommodation. The cost was estimated at £SO, the committee undertaking to find all labour. Twelve carpenters and three bricklayers had already offered their services. The balance of tho money could be spent in planting tho reserve and on general (improvements. ,

Tho Mayor congratulated the people of the East End. upon 1 having at last recognised the value of the reserve as a pleasure resort, and moved that the request be acceded to and that instructions he given to the proposed additions to the shed to be carried out at ouco, the work to bo under the supervision of the borough engineer. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

After thanking the council tho deputation withdrew.
