A TRAM ACCIDENT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 10. An elderly man named Henry Smith, late licensee of tho Scvon-mile-pog Hotel, was run over by a tram hi Cathedral Square about 12.30 p.m. today, sustaining serious’ injuries. It appears that Smith attemjitcd to board a car bound for tho Addington trots just as it was starting, and slipped and fell under the car, one 'wheel passing over his loft log. A bystander grabbed him, and pulled him out before tho second wheel ran over him. He was convoyed to,tho hospital, whore the leg was amputated. , YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED. ' WANGANUI, Feb. 10. A young woman named Lilly Nicholls, aged 23 years,- was drowned to-night at Upofcongnro. A party of four went up tho river in a row-boat, when it capsized at tho ferry and deceased was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered. . WANGANUI, Fob. 11. The body of the you. j woman who was the victim of an unfortunate drowning, fatality last night was discovered this morning close to the shore' where the bout was beached after the accident. She was clinging to tho boat when it touched land and when the rescue party went to assist her ashore, she had disappeared. The night being dark the party failed to rescue her. A BOY DROWNED.
