SEQUEL TO SLY GROG CASE. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 9. At tiro Police Court to-day, as ft soquol to the recent convictions of Mr. and Mrs. Poff for sly-grog selling at the Carriers’ Arms Hotel, James Sampson Ncave, a well-known Invercargill solicitor, and a boarder with the Poffs, was, charged with having unlawfully kept liquor for sale and having assisted in the commission of an offence, to wit, unlawfully keeping liquor .for sale. After some discussion, in which Neave (who conducted his own case) argued that the information had been loosely laid, and that, there was no case to answer, an adjournment to Wednesday next was made, tho Magistrate intimating that before that date ho would say whether Neave had a case to answer, gird that Neave must then , bo ready to go on. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, Feb. 9. A man named Edward Charles MTjoan, aged 30 years, residing with his parents at Green Island, . was brought to the hospital to-night suffering from wounds believed to have been self-inflicted, lie, is of a silent arid reserved disposition, and for the past two days has been in bed owing to pains in the head. To-night he was found on. tho flood bleeding profusely from, openings, in the veins of his loft arm and leg. He is progressing favourably. WANGANUI EXTENSION. WANGANUI, Fob. 9. INDENT AGENT FINED. • ' AUCKLAND, Feb. 10. ■ At tho Police Court a man named Hugh Douglas Guthrie, an indent agent, with headquarters at Dunedin, was charged that on November 23 at Dunedin he made a false declaration of goods upon false invoices.. Defendant admitted- the offence but satisfied tho court that though ho was supplied with tho invoices by an English firm, they were not sent at his request. The law admits no such excuse, but the Court thought the case would be mot by a minimum penalty of £25
