ALLEGED BREACH OF AN AWARD Pei*■■ Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, wan. 17. The Inspector of Factories proceeded against. Skelton, Frostiriki and Co;, claiming £2O for alleged broach of the bootmakers’ award, in having failed to pay wages to certain female employees on the A. and P. Show day and the following Saturday. It was, submitted that, though if the females were not their wages had to be computed weekly and not by the hour. Mr. Frostick replied that whilst one clause of the award provided that the. employer was not released from payment of wages for holidays' under thoi Factories Act, it was not incumbent on them to pay for holidays not mentioned in that Act. If they had not paid ap-' prentices, then they would have committed a breach of the award. He produced a statement showing that the employees had to work overtime for twb weeks prior to the holidays, and cost £l2 more ‘than if the holidays had not been given.
