ACCIDENT TO THE KAIPARA

A HOLE TWO FEET SQUARE. REPORTS OF THE DIVERS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 18. Extensive damage to tho hull of the Kaipara has been discovered by the divers. A hole two feet square was found, evidently whore the vessel struck. ■ For forty feet the seams arc affected considerably. Four divers are plugging tho seams, and a collision mat is being made for the large hole. A pumping test yesterday showed that tho rent must bo moro effectively stopped before tho pumps can cope with tho water. Pumping by the Terawhiti will probably sfart to-morrow.
