' The B)ackbal) Coal Company's collier Petone (Messrs. Webster and M'Kellar, agents) arrived in the harbour last niyht from Greymouth, and" berthed this morning to ■ discharge- "460 tons of '- coal, of ■ which 400 torn are' for the Railway Department. She is scheduled to return to Greymouth about 7 P-m. to-day, but is' expected back at New Plymouth shortly with, another cargo of coal. THE TRAINING-SHIP DARTFORD. The Union Company's training-ship Dai*tford, at present discharging part of her cargo-of jarrah at Wellington, is to leave there next week with rein ainder of cargo for Lyttelton. At the southern port a dozen more apprentices will join the vessel making a total of twenty-four. The- Dartford is fixed to po to Netrcastle to load coal for New Zealand. From Onehunga this morning the" Rarawa brought 60 tons of cargo, including 14 tons of manure, 9 tons of cement, and 5 tons of sugar. The Union Company's turbine boat I.nonfrana. having completed the winter r nvsuHsi in the Melbourne-Lavmceston ftvicp is being, extensively over-haul-ed at Melbourne, preparatory to com-r-encinpf the summer service-, about October-1. The Rotomahana is maintaining the service in the meanwhile. After being laid tip for se'yeral weeks r> iring the-slack season the Union Compiny's steamer Mararoa has been re-c-Mnmissioned for the Lyttelton-Wel-I'igton service which she re-enters on f'< ttjirday.
