THE BRITISH ARMY.
SERVICE ON THE GENERAL STAFF. OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLONIALS. By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 22. An Army order has been issued in substitution of order No. 233 issued in J.UO6. * It details the organisation and functions of the General Staff. Any officers below a lieutenant-colonel who does not hold a staff college certificate but is considered specially qualified for service on the General Staff in tho field, may be sent to the college for a year without entrance examination. The appointments to the British and colonial local staffs are to be made upon the recommendation of the General Staff, and submitted for the Kinels approval. The Pall' Mall Gazette says the growth of colonial armies will necessitate some modification, but for the present it seems certain colonial offioers will welcome the idea of graduating from an English staff college. . -
