WAITARA.
(From our own Correspondent.) Miss Rose Thomas secured firstjilaco in her^class and obtained honours at the recent Trinity College musical examinations. Mrs. W. Elliot and Mrs. A. Johnston, both of this town, are at present in the New Plymouth Hospital seriously ill. _ Whitebait lias started coming up the river, although th'o catches so far are somewhat infiuitisemal. At the Usual euchre party and dance in connection with the Bowling CJub, held in the Forester's Hall last evening, the successful prize winners were Mrs. Hellier and Mr. P. F. Prosser. The music for the dance was supplied by Miss Badloy, and Mesdamcs Allen, Nosworthy and Passau. Mr. H. N. Cossar (of the Economic) has kindly donated a ladies silver-backed hair brush for competition at the end pf {he series. ' . , On next Tuesday evening the memhorn of the North Taranaki Mounted Riflpa will lie sworn in. SergfyMajor Dodd. has been in Waitara recontly in connection therewith , and it is hoped tho company will soou get in active preparation for the purpose of earning capitation for the current year. Milk fever is rather prevalent among the dairy herds just now. Usrially this trouble is moro pronounced during tho height of the season. Some eight cows have been treated so far by Mr. H. Tnylor, V.S., with only one fajality. This speaks volumus for our genial vet's treatment. The Waitara Rifle Volunteers and cadets will parade on Sunday, the 26th inst., in honour of Dominion Day. It is expected that a number of veterans from New Plymouth and elsewhere will participate in this function.
