A HEAVY FINE.
LIQUOR AT JOHNSONVILLE. Per Press Association WELLINGTON, Sent. 17. Peter Hartshorn, lessee of the premises formerly licensed at JohnaonviQe (now part of a no^Kcenee district) teas fined £100 and costs for selling Udttor. Tub defence was that defendant - had started a " social club," of which -he wag secretary, and which was run under the "locker" system. In starting* this club defendant had given away a quantity of liquor. The Magistrate, Mr. Riddell, said it was unlikely that a man would make a free distribution of liquor to people he did not know.
