W. Verney, Liberal member for Buckingham, scid the cost of the old age pensions between JanuMj 1 and September 1 was distributed as follows: — . England and Wales, Ireland £1,501,UW. Scotland £693,000. Tho number of pensions granted was distributed as follows; — Kucland and Wales 410,000. Ireland 'ftffl" Scotland 73,000. Thus the pensioners proportionately to tho population were 11 per thousand in England and Wales, 42 per thousand in Ireland, and 15 per thousand in Scotland.
