Prolonged cheering, greeted the men-) tion of the nam* ofMr. Joseph Chamvberlain, and Mr. Davies read a letter from Mr. Chamberlajn to tha congress, in which he stated: "I .have no doubt you will find Australians ready to listen favourably to what you have to tell them. 1 wish very much I were stiff able to take an active part in the promotion of what X believe to be the greatest' movement in our own in. terest which I have seen for fifty yean. Ido not doubt that that/ policy will win at next election."
