FIRE ON THE TOMOANA.

A TIMELY DISCOVERY. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 14. When the hatches were removed from the s.b. Tomoana this morning for the continuation of discharge of the rur<.~>, a considerable volume of smoke- r-Mu-<! from No. 5 hold. Investigation showed that the fire had started near some cases of agricultural machinery, the woodwork of two having been burnt off. The fire was extinguished before any material damage was done, l>ut had it not been for the timely discovery of thevoutbreak, the result might have been disastrous, as included in the vessel's cargo were 8675 cases of kerosene, 500 cases of turpentine, 1375 coses of benane, and 1700 cases of gas oil, besides a lot of lumber.
