Recently it was announced that the Alley line of steamers had -been with- - drawn from the New Zealand-Canadian cargo service owing to the withdrawal of Government subsidies. T.he. steamer Indravelli, which arrived at Auckland this morning, is the last vessel of the tine to be' engaged in the trade, which jeases with her departure from New-. Zealand, for she has been fixed to load in this dominion and Australia for London. The quantity of cargo shipped by the steamer at Vancouver was 'pretty considerable. For Auckland she has 250,000 feet of Oregon pine and a laree quantity -of general cargo, while she has 200,000 feet of Oregon pine and general cargo to discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Since r the service was inaugurated three yean .- ago the Canadian shipments have al-' - ways been satisfactory, but the same ,;•■ can't be said of the exports from New Zealand. In fact, more often than- not the steamers were sent back Jo Vancouver with no cargo at all, although it is only fair to state of lai^ a slight improvement was noticeable.'
