H.M.S. CHALLENGER.

WELLINGTON, May 1. B M.S. Challenger arrived from Sydney to-day with two cases of scarlatina on board. The pfttionts are bluejackets, and have been removed to the hospital.

, The Rotoiti brought 33 tons of cargo from Onehunga this morning, including 110 bags of sugar and 43 cases ot "Captain Mitchell, of the Westport Coal Company's collier Regulus, is resigning command of that steamer, having accepted an appointment under tli© Westport Harbour Board. , The Orient Company has npw decided upon the fleet which will conduct the Commonwealth n*il service during the latter half of this year. The list includes four of the large new steamers provided under, contract with the Commonwealth Government for tho accelerated mail sorvice beginning in February The steamers 1 are 'the Orsova. Otway, Osterley and Olranlo fieent twin-screw vessels of 12,000 tons. The accommodation is most luxurious, nnd the advent of those vessels into the New Zealand and Australian passenger trade should bo much appreciated. ■ / __ ... The Collector of Customs at Wellington has decided not to hold any innuiry ipta the incidents on the barque Weathorsfield which necessitated the vessel being towed back to Wellington on Monday, The report of the master showed that the loss of sails, etc., was due to exceptional weather.
