When these aro given effect to it will be in the forefront of the most up-to-date courses in the/ North Island. Mr. Fr&nh Messenger has been appoJni^r} v fch© ' Club's architect, and- has been requested to prepare a pencil sketch and estimates for a stewards' stand, containing a secretary's office, jockeys' room, and weighing room on the ground floor, and stewards', press, and handicappers' rooms , and lavatories on second floor; also for stabling consisting of eight horse boxes and eight stalls. The decision of the Judicial Committee in connection with the inquiry into H. Price's riding of Moriarty in tl»» Grandstand Handicap at the recent ipeeting at New Plymouth has been confirmed by the Taranaki Jockey Club. Het- Yolk, by her performances up North, is fully justifying the high opinion as to her capabilities. Somali still shapes very well over the hurdles, and with a bit of luck should yet snatch a race or two. Sh« again 'ran second in the Linton Hurdles at the Manawatu meeting. The Taranaki Metropolitan Committee have granted jockeys' licenses to Albert Ellerm and H. J. Stevens, and apprentice's license to G. H. V. Paritutu put up an excellent performance in the Handicap Hurdles. Te Arai was favourite, and led the field ' up to the Jast hurdle, where Reservoir took command, and had established a two lengths' advantage when the stand was reached, but the Castor gelding coming along in fine ,style disposed of his opponent and won by threequarters of a length. ' At a meeting of the Manaia Club an approximate statement in connection with the Club's affairs was submitted. The estimated expenditure entailed in conducting the last race meeting was shown to be £220, and receipts from all sources £300, a surplus of £80 -approximately. The result of the race meeting was regarded as very satisfactory, the credit shown being the largest from any meeting so far held. There "was a considerable improvement in the class of horse seen out at the opening meeting of the North Taranaki Hunt Club on Thursday, and if all goes well several of the horses will be seen out in hurdle events next season. The well-known hurdler Southern Cross, who showed snoh improved form at the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting, is being offered for sale. Southern Cross, it will he remembered,, was at one time owned by Mr. Edgar Russell, and afterwards by Mr. Stewart M'Guinness; who in turn sold him m tho South Island.
