When th» new books arrived there would be a number of the older editions of the text-books for distribution to the branch libraries at Hawera and Stratford. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £285 6s lOd, but as the whole of the revenue is collected at the beginning of the year there would be no further funds out of which to meet the liabilities of the Society for the ensuing year. A D • Banks, now clerk of the Court at Christchurch. Mr. G. P.- Finlay was appointed secretary and librarian in placo of Mr. Banks, but he resigned shortly afterwards, and Mr. Terry, the present secretary and librarian, was appointed on November 6 last. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows : —President,. Mr. J. Bl Roy; vice-president, Mr. T. C. Fookescouncil, Messrs. D. Hatchen, G. Grey, R. C. Hughes, and Frank Wilson; treasurer, Mr. A. H. Johnstone; auditor, Mr. A. Bewley. A quantity of formal business was transacted.
