POOR DAISY.

'Twas at a weekly Rattle sale, And leaning hard against the rail, Was Daisy, an old dairy cow, And what she said I'll tell you now: "It's many years since I was born; Look at the rings around my horn. The other broke one lovely night When I beat Beauty in a fight. s J had a calf when three years old ; It was a darling to behold. But pigs were then my master's

pride ; He 'kitted my calf and sold the hide When he sat down my milk to take, I bashed, him cgre and no mistake. He tried again, but without fail: I mixed him up with stool and pail. He' belaboured me with rropye y and stick ; t ' I put more accent in the kick. He told his son that without fail I should be taken to the sale. H© did riot see why he should suffer Because Daisy proved to be a duffer. He drove me ,to the sale and then Put the reserve at four pounds, ten. A German asked him why he sold, And fearful were the lies he told : I was the quietest in his yard — Gave forty pounds of milk to start; I was the beat one out of six, JBut milkers left him in a fix. The German thought she must be good — j * ; iv He's an Englishman and speaks the truth. ' t At five pound* five I was knocked down — Tho German had me for his own. He ,told his wife he'd bought a cow ; They'd have, a rise at the factory now. His wife she milked me morn and . ' night ; J neyer kicked; it wasn't right, - For sympathy the sex does bind To one another to be kind. So I stayed there for many a year, I tried my best to do my share ; But getting old and feeble now, .• They're going to sell the poor Ola cow. For dairy work. I am too old, So as a 'boner' I'll be sold ; May tender yet my carcase be For those at Home that will eat me. — Der Wahre Jacob.
