A PORPOSED MEMORIAL.

Carruthers's proposal, a general committee in promoting a Captain Cook memorial has been formed by the Empire League, with the Prince of Wales as chairman ; Lord Brassey, treasurer; and the Lord Mayor, Lord Rosebery, Lord Cromer, Mr. H. H. Asquith (Prime Minister), Lord Rothschild, and Mr. Balfour as members. Seventeen ex-Governors and Agents-General represent Australasia.
