Gould, President of tho Commonweaitht Senate, interviewed regarding the Dreadnought proposal, said *hat Australia was willing to do all in her power if necessity demands. But firstly Australia would object to an.ything in the nature of a compulsory levy ; secondly, some people are inclined to confuse the subsidy with a tribute; and, thirdly, the Commonwealth had not great financial re-
