WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
THE ANNUAL CONVENTION.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 19. At the. afternoon session of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the financial report was adopted, hearty, votes of thanks being accorded to the retiring treasurer (Miss M'Carthy). The reports of the ' departments were then read and adopted. It was reported that most of 'the nonconformist churches and some of the Anglican use nnfermented wine at the Lord's Table. Mrs. Whitty reported that good work had been done among the seamen at Dunpdin, Grey mouth and Timaro by the Unions. Greetings were read from Miss Stirling (organiser among the natives) and from the Napier District Union. Mise N. Dewar reported on the Bible in schools. Many schools were, visited by ministers and mission sisters, while ir* Auckland the Union itself does thi? work and offers prizes for the best paper written upon the subjects v taken up. Mrs. Canon Webb presented her report upon the purity department, stating that a, quantity of useful literature had been circulated. A paper was read dealing with the "Contagious Diseases Act." A resolution was passed protesting against its continuance on the Statute Book.
