A nieeting of representatives off local bodies was held to-day to consider . the question of connecting Napier and iGisborne by rail in order to open tip the country. The local bodies repres ented were Gisborne, Hastings arid > ; Napier • Borough Councils, and • f ho Hastings and Napier Chambers of Commerce, ilt was resolved to form a- ■ league, to be known as the , ' ' East Coast Railway League/ to urge on fh&Government the necessity of forming - a line, failing which the Government are to be asked to- grant facilities for the formation^ of a company which would make the ,line on receiving a land grant, or, as avfurther alterna--tive, that the Government be asked-to construct the line if the settlers raise a the money required.
