NEW PLYMOUTH V. HAWERA.

A team of six New Plymouth players journeyed to Hawera on Thursday and spent a most enjoyable day. The visitors were most hospitably received. The local club suffered defeat^ losing four out of the seven games played. Owing to lack , of ■ time, one single was unfinished and one double not even started. A long and most interesting game was between Mrs. Hawken (Hawera) and Miss Deacon (New Plymouth), who were playing first place for their respective clubs. This game (short game) lasted two hourss and was finajly won by Miss Deacon. The following are the detailed re-> suits (Hawera ladies . being mentioned first in each case): — In the singles Mrs Hawken lost tc Miss Deacon, Mrs. Atkinson .lost tc Mrs. Courtney, Miss Pratt defeated Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Campbell defeated Mrs. Simpson, Miss Clapcott v. Misr Hall (unfinished), Mrs. Webster lost to Mrs. Murray. In the doubles Mrs. Hawken and Mrs* Atkinson (Hawera) lost to Miss" Deacon and Mrs. Courtney (New Plymouth, while Miss Pratt and Mrs. Campbell : (Hawera) defeated Mrs. Grant and Mrs ; Murray (New Plymouth). i The semi-final in the local champion .ship singles was ,«lay<ad this week. , Mrs. , Clarke defeated Mrs. Blundell anc 1 Miss Deacon defeated Mrs. Gray, thm j! leaving Mrs. Clarke and Miss Deacoi< I to play off in the final.
