WILDING AT PLAY

In a men\ double event with Fisher and in a single with Pearse, A. F. Wilding made his first appearance in Now Plymouth. His play was the attraction ot the day. The Powdrell brothers made a very good combination, but against such a pair as Wilding and Fisher they did not appear to advantage. Wilding's service was certainly a revelation, and it was through this medium that the Powdrell brothers were disposed of so easily. The other various branches of the game were shown by this versatile player m a most attractive manner. In the singles match with Pearse he again exemplified his reputation as a wielder of the racket. Pearse was disposed of in the first set before he had annexed a game.. But the second set, which went to Wilding, 6— 3, , was rather different. At tho outset Wilding took the first three .games, the next went to Pearse, so did the next until tho score stood three all. Wilding, however, continued his steady play and took the next throe games. Later Wilding partnered Miss Nunneley in a combined double event. They defeated Miss Thomson and Taylor, after an interesting game.
