BOWLING.

(By Toucher. 1 A special general meeting of members of the New Plymouth Bowling Club was held last night to consider a proposed alteration of the rides respecting membership. After discussion it was decided to limit the mem bership for playing members to 110 for this season, for the reason that there is not room on the green for many, more players than now frequently attend. The rule with reference to submitting the names of proposed new members to a ballot of the whole club was rescinded, the responsibility being put upon the committee again. Tt was further decided that instead of rinks on Thursdays being selected purely by chance the Match Committee shall in future select rinks. Some difference of opinion exists upon this question. Up to the present the names' of all players on the green have been placed in the ballot-box and the first eight drawn out have formed themselves into two opposing rinks. This has often led to very unevenly balanced teams meeting, thus destroying interest in tjie game\ Under the iticw system now adopted the Match Committee will, after balloting out any odd members who may be present, take the 32, 40, or 48 names, as the case may be, and select rinks from the whole. The only objection raised to this is that inferior players may not get much encouragement, but the Match Committee may be trusted to give every chance to those who are keen enough on the game to endeavour to improve their play. The holders of the Veale buckles, G. Grey and Ewing, have been challenged by A. D. Gray and Cock. A. K. Smart and J'enn, who held the buckles through seven matches last year, will not be playing together this season, Smart taking a younger player, probably Rudd, as a lead. A team of five rinks from the New Plymouth Club will visit Stratford on December 10, if convenient to Stratford, who, however, have been asked to play Eltham that day. The Now Plymouth Club has enrolled a great many new members this season, several of them beginners, and others former members of the club or of the Fitzroy Club.
