COUNTY OF TARANAKI.

Balance Sheet of the County Fund Account for the Year ended 31st March, 1908. I.— GENERAL ACCOUNT.

Audited in accordance with the provisions of the " Counties Act " for "Accounts and Audit," and- Certified subject to the following exceptions: — 1. The payment of £17 17s. Od. for delegate's expenses is without authority of law. 2. The transfer of £133 7s. lid. from the General Account to the Interest Bridge Loan Account is contrary to the provisions of Section 134 of the "Counties Act, 1908." 3. The special rates made over portions of the district to secure the loans of £702 14s. lid. and £2052. 85. Bd. were not collected to a sufficient amount to pay the interest thereon. 4. The Statement of Public Debt is incorrect as showing the amount owing for the Bridge Loan as £11,200 instead of £11,300. . _, R wmßxmm^ Conptroller and Auditor-General. Considered and settled at a Special Meeting of the Council on the sth day of October, 1908, subject to th« addition of the following: — . 4 1. The Council considers the payment of £17 17s. od., delegate's expenses, has the authority of law, as /the paj? ment was made under Section 3, "Public Revenues Act, 1893," and was for the service and in tEe interests of the inhabitants of the County. 2. The Council considers the transfer of £133 7s. lid. from the General Account to the Bridge Loan Interest . Account is in accordance with the "Local Bodies' Loans Act." The payment was made under Section 18, " Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1908," which empowers the Council to pay the interest on a loan secured by a whole district rate out of its General Fund.
