THE KAPITI DAMAGED.

Wellington, October 24. — On the last trip of the steamer Kapiti to Patea she struck a submerged object and. sprang a leak. She completed her voyage and returned to Wellington, Spon after midnight it was discovered .that she was leaking to such an, extent that she had to be beached at Pipitea Point, in the harbour. The exact -extent of the damage is not yet known. The Takapuna brought 130 tons of cargo from Onehunga this morning, including 460 pipes, etc., 424 bags of manure, 60 sacks of cement, 374 Dags of sugar, 75 sacks, 6JL- 100's. and 144 50's of flour, 135" cases of fruit, and 'so sacks of maize. <..-■-' The Kittawa arrived from Westport this morning with ■ 577 tons --of State coal for this port. She will leave for Onehunga. on Monday afternoon with the balance of her cargo of coal.
