There is*better demand for beef, which is in small supply. New Zealand beef is being held for a rise in price. Hindquarters 4sd, fore-i quarters 3|d. Butter.— Tho market is quiet but firm. There is good demand. Tho butter shipped by the Wakanui arrived in good /condition. It is quoted at 116s per cwt. Danish 119s, Siberian 108s, Canadian 115s. Cheeses — The. market is firm with improved demand. Canadian makes 6Js per cwt. Hemp. — The market is slightly weaker with less demand. Following are current quotations : — On the spot : Good fair grade £27, fair grade £23, fair current Manila £23 10s. October to December shipments: Good fair grade £26, fair gradti £23, fair current Manila £23 10s. Last week's outi put from Manila amounted to 24,000 bales. Cocksfoot seed. — The market is very uncertain. There is very little New Zealand on hand. Buyers are not keen to do business as prices are too high. Bright clean 171 b seed is quoted at 90s per cwt (nominal), American 80s.
