The Kaiser, later at Colmar, replying to tho Burgomaster's address, expressed himself touched with the great affection and tho enthusiastic warmth of tho reception accorded him everywhero in Alsace-Lorraine "I joyfully watch the development of this country," he continued. "This development, thanks bo to God, has been brought to fruitage under the protection of the German Eagle, and under my standard, ' and, please God, will never bo disturbed. The country has undergone vicissitudes, but now is able to extend and develop itself in peace." ''For peace," added the Kaiser, "will be maintained, tho country will be able to flourish and thrive. Colmar and Alsace," he concluded, ''may rest assured that I havo a specially safe and warm corner in my heart for them."
