NEWTON KING'S REPORT

Mr Newton King reports : At Kaponga on Friday 4thinst. there was a good yarding, principally dairy cattle and store cows. Both classes were well competed for and nearly everything sold* at a satisfactory price. Yearling steers 365, heifers 18s, 2-year empty heifers 465, springing heifers £3 Is to £5 10s; springing cows £3 17s 6d to £5 17s 6d, store cows 33s to 50s, forward 44g 6d to £3 10s 6d, bulls £3 3s 6d.

At Douglas on Monday the yards were full. Competition for both store and dairy catle was very brisk, and excellent prices were realised throughout. Mixed yearlings 16s to 225, 2-year steers £2 18s 6d to £3 4s 6d, store cows £2 to 445. The dairy stock comprised several dairies of cows and an unusually large number of heifers. Cows in full milk brought £5 15s to £7 os, springers £5 to £10 10s, late calvers £3 5s to £4 15s, springing heifers made £4 to £7 12s 6d, small and backward £3 to £3 17s 6d. At Stratford on Tuesday, there was a. smaller yarding of store cattle than usual, but a good entry in the dairy pens. All classes were well competed for. Young store cattle sold at improved prices. Quotations : — 2 to 2£year steers £2 18s to £3 ss, 3-year £3 138, mixed calves to yearlings made 24s to 375, store cows 37s to 41s, forward 57s 6d. Dairy cattle sold as under : — Springing cows £5 os to £8, heifers £3 5s to £6 15s. On Wednesday at Bell Block I held a sale of Pedigree and grade Jerseys on account of Mr C Clarke. There was a good attendance and satisfactory prices were realised throughout. Pedigree cows 20 to 27 guineas, yearling heifers 14 guineas, 2-year bull 17$ guineas, yearling bull 9 to 17 guineas, pure bred (but without pedigree) springing heifers 12 to 22 £ guineas grade heifers 7 to 13£ guineas, yearlings 3£ to 4} guineas. VICKERS AND STEVENS' RiCPORT Messrs Vickers and Stevens report : There was a good entry of cattle in our Inglewood yards on Wednesday, the majority being springers. These were well competed for. Calves to yearlings made from £1 to £1 os, empty heifers £1 11s to £2 Bs, store cows £1 5s to £2 8s 6d, old and backward springers £2 15s to £3 10s, good springers £4 to £6 10s, f.m. ewes and lambs 9s.
